A man should never neglect his family for business. – Walt Disney
This may seem very simple and a natural saying, that you should never forget your family for business. But many business owners fall into this trap, and me being guilty of this too. It can easily happen.
Imagine your running a business, and you’re just on that last bit of your project, or on a conference call which has exceeded its time scale, or you have to attend a sudden meeting. All of this happens when you were meant to be at home on the dinner table? What do you do, you’re stuck in a dilemma, if you don’t work, you risking putting food on the table, if you do continue to work, you’ve upset your family. Difficult scenario.
Its only difficult if you make it, look at the bigger picture, work never finishes, if it’s not today, tomorrow, if not tomorrow another day. There will always be something to do. If you have missed a sales opportunity another one will come. Not a big deal.
But the precious time lost, not being there for your family and loves ones will not come back. The chance to say bed time stories to your kids, will dissolve with time, as your kids grow older. The hours lost not being there for dinner, will have an impact and strain on your family life.
At times you have to look at the other side of the table, as much as your business needs you so does your family, and the reason that you are working is for yourself, for your family, and loved ones. If you can’t be there for them and are always working working working, than what’s the point. You can earn all the money in the world but you want have no one to spend it and enjoy it with.
Just like Walt Disney said, never to neglect your family, is simple, put your family first, than your work. Your family will support you, and be there for you at all times, and never know this may also make you more productive when you do go back to work.
Give time to your loved ones. Enjoy your Weekend.
