Social Media Optimization (SMO) refers to the process of sharing content over the Internet and hoping to gain followers and other positive feedbacks. There are a lot of social networks available for you to share your content to and which followers can use for viewing them.

The ultimate goal of SMO is to increase traffic to one’s website thru the use of social media and by increasing viewers of content. With this in mind, SMO specialists utilize the tools and features of each respective social network to maximize the exposure of their content, in the hope of catching their interests and converting them to customers.

Social networks are the ones with the greatest traffic generations compared to other platforms. But take note that traffic generation can only be made possible if your content is interesting and can be easily shared. On the other hand, if your content lacks both aspects, then you will have a hard time using SMO for traffic generation.

The idea of SMO marketing is that the success of your traffic generation will rely mainly on how your friends share your content to their friends, and so forth. If these individuals find your content appealing, then there is a big possibility that he/she will share that content to his followers. Unlike previous SMO methods, the priority now is increasing the sharing of content to gain more exposure and traffic. Hence, quality is vitally important.

Here are some aspects of this strategy that you might want to take note of:

Make Use of Widgets and Badges – widgets are made specifically to serve as a tools to grab other contents or for other users to grab and share content to blogs, Facebook accounts, Twitter and other social sites.

One effective strategy on how to use widgets is to allow followers to spread content over their different social media accounts by posting it in their profiles and leaving them to be shared (without having to go to your blog). Hence, you get multiple views on your content without forcing viewers to visit your website.

Badges on the other hand, contain codes that enable users to add links to their content, thereby directing them to your website. It may prove to be a more challenging strategy, but it has certain features that make it a favorite choice of SMO experts. One example is that each badge has a specific identifier – which allows users to be directed to their entry page and not on their website’s landing page.

Sharing of  Content – we keep talking about social sharing but still a lot of social media users still generate limited traffic from the contents they shared.

First of all, you need to provide options for users on how to share your content. You can use social sharing apps to help in sharing your content. You can also provide more buttons for users so that sharing content will be much easier for them.

Create Sign-In features – we all know that one of the objectives of an online business is to attract customers. One way of knowing how far a visitor will go in terms of engagement is by letting them sign-up. This way, you can create an email list based on the visitors that actually register.

Once you get a steady number of registered visitors, this will then mean your contents have created a major impact on them – and that they have registered to check the other items that you’re offering. Take note that if you do your webpage right – then this will result to more shares, more traffic and an increase in sales as well.

Leave Interesting and Relevant Comments – every time you leave a comment on a site, you are promoting yourself to the followers of that site. However, the reactions of these followers and their response will be based on how relevant your comments actually are. And if they find your ideas interesting, then you can expect to have more visitors.

Take note that comments will also appear on the profiles of other users. Hence, there is a big chance that you might be able to catch their attention and make them your followers as well.

These are just some of the important aspects of SMO or Social Media Optimization. In the end, what is important is that you are able to entice a greater audience, have a wider share of the market and reap more benefits.
