Another blow came to SEO experts and online marketers in the form of Google’s latest Algorithm, the Google Penguin. This is in line with the fact that with Google’s new algorithm, the old ways of creating links to build traffic won’t automatically put your website on the top of the page rank anymore.  Why? This is because the new algorithm is into quality link building and not just quantity link building.

As you may already know, link building has been one of the core factors in directing traffic to one’s website, and this has been going on for quite a time already.  Fortunately, as it used to function perfectly before – it still is the same with Google’s new Penguin update. The only difference here is that with Penguin, you will need to have quality working links in order for your page to get to a higher rank.  With these, link building has evolved into a much more technical task – and many say that this should have been done years ago.

Are you curious as to how you can adjust your link building techniques to this new Google update?  Here are some ways to do it:

Make sure your domain is cached in Google

Before anything else, you will need to make sure that your domain is cached in Google.  This is because if you have a cached domain, your page will load faster – making it easier for search engines to engage your site, and your links will work better.

Check the websites that are linked to your domain

Make sure that the sites that are linked to your domain are working and have good quality – because if not, it will bring down your page ranking with them. You also need to make sure that these links don’t have crazy domain names that will bring down your rankings.magnifying-glass

Another thing to do is to check these existing links if they are linked to too many domains. This is because if they are – then they may not be able help you with your page rankings and traffic building. What is important here is that these links are of good quality and that the rankings of the other domains that they are linked to are good as well.

Check how links to your domain ranked in Google

As mentioned above, you will need to check the rankings of the domain that your links are linked to.  Hence, you will need to check the rankings of the links, and how their ranks affect your overall page ranking.  Besides, checking out page rankings is another way to check the quality of the links.

Create quality content in the domain

This is a major factor in page ranking, and this method still applies in Google penguin. Make sure that you have quality written contents that are not merely spun or duplicated. Also bear in mind that for your domain to work – you need to have quality content and links as well.  Hence, check for links that point to your website.  And if they contain poor quality content, then there is a big chance that they may also drag your rankings down.

Retain and Drop Domains

For you to achieve the page ranking that you desire, you will need to drop these bad links accordingly so that you won’t go down with them, and risk getting penalized by Google.  However, you must also retain those that are linked to high ranking pages because they will help in boosting up your rankings.

You also need to stay away from those links that have already been dropped by other domains.  In other words, avoid picking-up somebody else’s trash.  The saying that “one man’s trash, is another man’s treasure” doesn’t apply with Google Penguin.  And aside from dropped domains, avoid those that have expired as well.

Place your Links strategically

If in the previous Google algorithms, the location of the links didn’t really matter as much – with Google Penguin, however, where you put the links will affect your rankings. In other words, whether you put the links at the bottom, at the top, or at the side – this will have significant weight to your page rankings.  Hence, you should be careful.

It would be best if you placed links at the top of the page.  However, links on the bottom and in the side may also contribute to your page ranking – but not with the same weight as the ones placed on top.

These are just some of the things that you may want to know about efficient link-building with the new Google Penguin.  Just try follow them, and you will see your page rankings rank the way you want them to.
